raute

The Raute community, known as the ‘king of the jungle’ claims its origin in the Fukot area of western Nepal. They are traditionally nomadic, with a history linked to various nomadic groups in India. While predominantly settled in the Dadeldhura district oAboutf Nepal, government efforts to relocate them have seen limited success. Their language, Khamchi, derived from Chinese-Tibetan, is supplemented by some knowledge of Khas and modern Nepali.
